San Francisco diary 7: Hello Denmark, my old friend
To be clear I'm writing this while being 2 weeks at home already. I just cannot get myself to write it because a) it was really really long stay in just one place b) I guess I don't like US that much (as you have already noticed).
On the very last day we didn't visited any of the company, the main goal for most of us was just to leave... either back to Denmark or for those who weren't annoyed by US enough, to another place or at least another hotel. I personally (because I'm cheap idiot) booked the flight that was supposed to happen at 22.30 so I watched everyone leave.
At some high point of that day I went for little walk around to the city. To the financial district, eat, send postcards, go to local Starbucks just to figure out that a) they do have even less plugins that we had in Starbucks where I used to work b) they have even more question about your coffee that we were supposed to ask (would you like to have blond, medium or dark roast? Which roast exactly would you like - this one taste like... and in this you can feel... Also I can put some mint chocolate syrup in it if you want to.) It is terrifying place and the only thing that I liked about it was the thing that baristas are allowed to wear whatever they want - not like the European idiotic Starbusks that still want to have look of the high society (even on Wenceslav square, where hookers come to buy coffee after shift).
I was still thinking about buying that thing from H&M but the idea of buying something from sweat shop still killing me so no, I'll buy something in Denmark, where there is strict policy against child labor.
Anyway what to do in town that already bored you for the last 3 days? Nothing actually. Or as I did - find my self cat coffee and stay there till there is time to go to the airport. So I actually did spent about 4 hours in cat coffee trying to annoy every single cat there was.
After that finally airport. Yey! First overnight flight. Which was terrible idea. Next time I'll just fly with anything that does not make my toes curl.
I had 3 o'clock San Francisco time when we landed in Toronto. In Toronto however was already 6 in the morning. So all the looks by immigration officers like "Why didn't you fill out the document in the plane?" was priceless. Do I look like someone who does bureaucracy during the night? Or ever? I don't think so. But they are more used to jokes. Like "Do you have something to declare?" - "yes, I would like to declare that I'm really tired and kinda hungry". Those people actually checked my connecting flight and figured out that I have 14 hours in Canada. And immediately felt sorry for me because I probably already looked like piece of trash.
You can get to the heart of Toronto in about 30 minutes from airport if you buy the train ticket. Which is more clever that anything I have seen in US. But, same as US, you can see all the big skyscrapers, several museums and that is about it, cause lets face it, they don't have much of history, but lots of woods and bears. Which I would love to see but none of it is in Toronto. So I found another cat coffee cause cats can save the day. And after that back to my beloved historical Denmark with small buildings. You have no idea how much I missed you Denmark!
